TUFLOW October 2010 Release Notes

Brief descriptions of each build for the October 2010 release are provided below. Please note that the new features in the 2010-10 release are documented in the TUFLOW manual provided with the release.

New builds are provided in the event of any bug fixes or enhancements. It is recommended to always use the latest build. An email announcing the release of a new build are sent out to all registered members of the TUFLOW Forum who have elected to receive email notifications (to register for the forum please click here).

Build 2010-10-AD: July 21, 2011 (Minor bug fixes and enhancements.)

Build 2010-10-AC: April 15, 2011 (Range of minor bug fixes and enhancements.)

Build 2010-10-AB: February 21, 2011 (Range of minor bug fixes and enhancements; New Pit Search feature.)

Build 2010-10-AA: October, 2010 (First build - refer to the 2010-10 TUFLOW Manual for new features and changes.)

Build 2010-10-AD : July 21, 2011 (top)

Build 2010-10-AD includes the following enhancements and bug fixes. To download visit TUFLOW Executables.

1. First (non-beta) release of TUFLOW AD Module is included in this build and the TUFLOW AD manual is now available from here.

2. A number of .tcf commands read at the very start of the processing can now be included in an Event File or If Scenario block. These include: “Defaults ==”; “Log Folder ==”; “MI Projection ==”.

3. Can now use a relative .tcf pathname in an .ief file when running ISIS-TUFLOW. For example, the .ief file entry could be:
2DFile=..\tuflow\runs\my_model.tcf

4. SMS High Resolution output options now work for XMDF output files.

5. xmdf.sup file is now correctly written if both .dat and .xmdf output is requested.

6. Fixed bug that didn't correctly select an inflow hydrograph from a WBNM Meta.out file if two or more catchments with similar IDs occurred. For example, if catchments "Catch1" and "Catch" occurred in that order, "Catch1" inflow hydrograph would be used for "Catch". This has been fixed with 2010-10-AD now searching for a unique ID, rather than a sub-string match.

7. Fixed bug that didn’t output Conn_w correctly in 1d_nwk_N_check layer.

8. Fixed bug that didn’t close files correctly if using “PO Online == ON” and caused a crash in rare situations.

Build 2010-10-AC : April 15, 2011 (top)

Build 2010-10-AC includes the following enhancements and bug fixes. To download visit TUFLOW Executables.

1. Several bug fixes to XMDF files for Multiple 2D Domain models, and maximum/minimum values for datasets are now built in thanks to a new XMDF function.

2. When using the -c copy model option, in addition to "a" to copy all data files including original GIS layers, there are two new options: "ncf" to not write check files; and "p <path>" to specify an alternative path for the model to be copied to. See this forum topic. For example, -cap "C:\put_model_here" will write all model files including original layers into a folder C:\put_model_here (make sure there is a space after -cap). Another example would be -cncf that would copy the essential input files excluding the check files.

3. If using "Defaults == Pre 2008-08" and there are 1D culvert or weirs in the model, the fixed field temporary file that TUFLOW creates is now recognised - see this forum topic.

4. TUFLOW M2D licences now work for Halcrow Software TUFLOW licences (previous TUFLOW releases work fine, but Builds 2010-10-AA and AB don't).

5. The .wor file output by TUFLOW for each run was (accidentally!) written to the 2D results folder for previous 2010-10 builds. The .wor file for 2010-10-AC is now written to the log folder (ie. same location as the .tlf file). In previous TUFLOW releases the .wor files was written to the same folder as the .tcf file. The .wor files now also includes non MapInfo GIS inputs as comments in the .wor file.

6. If no "Read Materials File ==" command was specified, and materials were set in the .tgc file, the default Manning's n of 0.05 was used. As of Build 2010-10-AC, TUFLOW will now stop and ERROR 2011 is issued if materials are specified and there is no materials file.

7. Build 2010-10-AC has reverted back to using the SMS v10 licensing for those with a SMS TUFLOW model licence. Build 2010-10-AB used the new SMS v11 licensing which is not recognised by SMS v10 licences.

8. New .tcf command "HQ Weighting Factor == <value>" that improves the stability of downstream HQ boundaries that are problematic (primarily those that are deep with a flat water surface slope). Try using "HQ Weighting Factor == 0.5" (the default is 1.0 which gives backward compatibility).

9. Bug fix for the "If Scenario ==" command when several "Else If Scenario ==" levels are used.

Build 2010-10-AB : February 21, 2011 (top)

Build 2010-10-AB includes the following enhancements and bug fixes. To download visit TUFLOW Executables (note that the manual has also been updated).

1. Any number of pits can now be snapped or connected to a digitised node or manhole. Prior to this build, if a digitised pit, manhole or node was snapped to another digitised pit, manhole or node (ie. two or more digitised point objects at the same location), TUFLOW would not treat these as one node.

2. New .ecf "Pit Search Distance == [ {0.0} | <dist> ]" command that sets the search distance for automatically connecting pits (eg. gully traps) to the nearest 1D node. This means that pits do not need to be snapped to a channel end, which can be very useful where the location of the pits is known, but the connecting pipe to the main trunk pipes is not known. See the 2010-10-AB TUFLOW Manual for details.

3. New .ecf "Pit Default 2D Connection == [ {} | <Conn_2D> ]" command sets the default 1d_nwk Conn_2D value. For example, if set to SX, then if the 1d_nwk Conn_2D attribute for a pit is empty, SX will be used, saving the user to specify SX at pits. To disconnect a pit NO can be used for the Conn_2D attribute. Also, it is now possible to have the L and Z options at the one pit (eg. SXLZ) - previously only a maximum of three characters was allowed.

4. If a manually digitised manhole occurs more than once within all of the 1d_mh layer(s), the last occurrence prevails and overrides the prior ones.

5. XF files can be read directly by specifying the XF filename (with a .xf4 or .xf8 extension) in the "Read GIS" command.

6. The bug relating to problems with using -e1 or -s1 reported in this forum topic has been fixed, and additional checks have been added.

7. "ERROR 0252 - ... is not a supported file format for the last command." may occur in 2010-10-AA if the .mif or .mid extension was omitted. This is now fixed - see this forum post.

8. If the .mid file is incomplete (due to manual editing, not if exporting from a GIS), Build 2010-10-AA would crash. Build 2010-10-AB has fixed this and issues ERROR 0254 if the .mid file is incomplete.

9. "Read GIS Manhole ==" has been added to the 2010-10-AB version of the TUFLOW manual (also see this forum post).

10. GIS layers referred to via the .tcf "Calibration Points MI File" command are now opened and closed during the startup phase so the existence of the layer is checked (rather than at the end of the simulation as this causes issues if the layer does not exist or has a save date later than the .tab file), and also so that the layers are copied if using the -c or -ca run-time option.

11. WARNING 2460 is issued if the f1 or f2 attributes are zero - see this forum post.

12. For SMS TUFLOW licencees, this build supports the new SMS Version 11 licensing.
