Long section profile plot of more than one grid

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

In VM it is possible to plot a number of grids on a long section or cross section in a waterway, for example, a DEM with several flood profiles (existing vs. developed cases, or, multiple AEPs).

It this possible in ArcGIS?

Any pointers would be much appreciated.....

Kind regards,

Paul.

Hi Paul,

When you create a section in Vertical Mapper all grids which are active (are ticked in the 1st column) in the grid manager should show on a section / profile plot. In the attached image, there is a DEM and two results grid.

Hi Phil,

Sorry, my post may not have been very clear.  My real question is can you do this in ArcGIS? I don't think it is possible in Arc (everyone I've asked who is an Arc user says no).

No applause just yet mate....  ;-)

Cheers

Paul.

Hi Paul,

You are correct, I misread "it is" as "is it".

It seems that you can't do this with the profile tool in 3D analyst.  But there appear to be some 3rd party tools (e.g. http://arcscripts.esri.com/details.asp?dbid=15991), however, I've not used these so can't comment on how good they are.

This can be done easily in QGIS using the profile tool plugin see post-220-0-85947100-1411090494_thumb.jpg.

Cheers

Phil
